3.30 p.m.                     Classroom Assessment Techniques I.

-       Conceptests

6.00 p.m.                     Dinner.

9.00 p.m.                     Homework reading assignment on using the learning cycle to teach by inquiry.

 

 

 

Monday

 

8.30 a.m.                     Inquiry biology experience - Pollination lab.

11.15 a.m.                   Identify key elements of successful inquiry experience.

Noon                           Lunch and reading club.

1.00 p.m.                     The Learning Cycle.

2.00 p.m.                     Other examples of inquiry-based learning experiences.

3.30 p.m.                     Build your own inquiry-based activity.

5.30 p.m.                     Dinner.

7.00 p.m.                     How do students think? The implications for teaching and learning.

8.30 p.m.                     Homework reading assignment on using collaborative groups.

 


Tuesday

 

8.30 a.m.                     Introduction to collaborative learning – jigsaw exercise using previous evening’s reading assignment.

10.00 a.m.                   How to manage group activities.

-       Pros and Cons of using groups, Outcomes, Formal vs. Informal groups, Group techniques – Jigsaw, Think-pair-share, Buzz groups.

Noon                           Lunch.

1.00 a.m.                     Classroom Assessment Techinques II.

-       Rubrics (w/Diane).

-       Concept maps.

-       Other CATs.

5.30 p.m.                     Dinner.

7.00 p.m.                     Akron Aeros baseball game.

 

 

 

Wednesday

 

8.30 a.m.                     Teaching reform and institutional change – team examples.

9.30 a.m.                     UA A& S Dean and Assoc. Provost for Teaching and Learning discuss role of teaching and learning reform within the institution.

11.30 a.m.                   Identify potential institutional reform goals at home institutions.

Noon                           Lunch.

1.00 p.m.                     Action Plans - individual/departmental/institutional.

3.00 p.m.                     Departure.
